How to Use the Course

The Class A CDL Theory online course is broken down into 30 units. Each unit covers specific topic(s) stated in the unit title.

To complete a unit and move on to the next, students will need to pass study questions about the content covered in the unit.

After completing all units and study questions, you will be able to take the Class A Theory proficiency exam as many times as needed to achieve a score of 80% or higher.

Upon receiving a passing score, your results will be automatically transmitted to the FMCSA's Training Provider Registry to meet ELDT requirements. You will then be permitted to continue on to skill training and testing.

NOTE: as of February 7th, 2022, if you do not complete the Class A ELDT Theory requirement, you will be turned away at the licensing agency.

Class A Theory Test Study Questions

After reviewing the content of each unit, study questions will become available. The questions cover key takeaways from the content, and you'll be able to check your answer before moving to the next question. Don't stress, study questions are not graded, and you can change your selection as many times as needed until you find the correct answer to move forward.

After answering all questions correctly, you will be able to continue on to the next unit until all 30 units are complete.

Proficiency Exam

The proficiency exam will become available after you have successfully completed all 30 units. This 50-question test is made up of questions from each of the units covered. Your score will become available after all questions have been answered. Don't worry; you can take the exam as many times as needed to receive a passing score of 80% or higher without an additional charge. After receiving a passing score, you will be able to transmit the test results to the FMCSA's Training Provider Registry.

NOTE: It's important to make the time to complete all 50 questions in one sitting, as your progress will be lost if the exam is interrupted.

Transmitting Results to the FMCSA's Training Provider Registry

When you have received a passing score of 80% or higher on the final proficiency exam, your results will automatically be transmitted to the FMCSA to ensure that you have met the ELDT requirements for getting a Class A CDL. This will allow you to proceed with skills training and testing.
