Introduction to Course

This Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Theory online course is provided by C1 Truck Driver Training, a school listed on the FMCSA's Training Provider Registry, and fulfills the required theory instruction needed to take the knowledge test as part of the Federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements. This Hazardous Materials course is intended to help CDL drivers learn the information needed to obtain a HazMat endorsement.

The Hazardous Materials online course is made up of 12 units designed to cover safety and compliance information. At the end of each unit, users will be given study questions to help in retaining the information that's being learned. Upon completing all units, a final proficiency exam will be provided requiring a score of 80% or higher in order to successfully submit results to the Training Provider Registry. Once these results are successfully transmitted, the user will be permitted to take the required knowledge test for obtaining a Hazardous Materials Endorsement.

How to Use the Course

The Hazardous Materials Theory ELDT online course is broken down into 12 units. Each unit is designed to cover the specific topic(s) stated in its title. In order to complete each unit, you'll need to correctly answer study questions about its content.

After reading the content and completing the study questions for all 12 units, you'll be able to take the Hazardous Materials course proficiency exam as many times as needed to achieve a passing score of 80% or higher. Upon receiving a passing score, your results will be transmitted to the FMCSA's Training Provider Registry, fulfilling the ELDT theory-based requirement. You will then be permitted to schedule to take the knowledge exam at your local licensing agency.

NOTE: as of February 7th, 2022, if you do not complete the HazMat Theory ELDT requirement, you will be turned away at the licensing agency.

HazMat Theory Test Study Questions

Study questions for each unit are only available after that content in a particular unit has been reviewed. The questions focus on the key areas covered in the content and you'll be able to check your answer before moving on to the next question. Don't worry, you won't be scored on the study questions and you can change your selection as many times as needed until you find the correct answer. Upon answering all study questions correctly, you'll be able to move on to another unit in the Hazardous Materials online course until all 12 units are completed. After completing all 12 units, you'll be ready to move on to the proficiency test.

Proficiency Exam

The proficiency test is made available only after all 12 units have been marked “complete” and all study questions have been correctly answered. This 50 question proficiency test is made up of questions from each of the 12 units and you will not be shown your results until all 50 questions have been completed. Don't worry, you'll be able to take the test as many times as needed to achieve a passing score of 80% (40/50) or higher. Once you've secured a passing score, you'll be able to transmit the test results to the FMCSA's Training Provider Registry.

Note: It's important that you plan to complete all 50 questions in one sitting, as you will not be able to save your progress and come back.

Transmitting Results to FMCSA's Training Provider Registry

Upon receiving a passing score of 80% or higher on the final proficiency exam, results will automatically be transmitted to the FMCSA. This will ensure you have met the Theory portion of the ELDT requirements for getting a Hazardous Materials endorsement (H) and allow you to proceed with scheduling a test at your local licensing agency.
