Understanding School Bus ELDT Requirements

The new ELDT regulation, mandated in February 2022, was designed to ensure all drivers receive the same standard of training on a federal level. Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements apply to anyone seeking to add a School Bus Endorsement to their CDL; current endorsement holders are excused. School Bus training must be completed through an FMCSA-approved program that is registered with the Training Provider Registry (TPR). Drivers must complete the School Bus Theory ELDT course before moving on to the skills training portion.

C1 School Bus Theory Course

Don’t skip this important step! To help drivers meet the new ELDT requirement, C1 Truck Driver Training offers an FMCSA-approved School Bus Theory online course. For just $99, the course includes units covering topics such as Basic Operation, Safe Operating Procedures, Vehicle Systems and Reporting Malfunctions, and Passenger Safety.

Each unit includes study questions to help reinforce key information before the final proficiency exam, which becomes available once all units are completed. A passing score of 80% or higher is required, but the exam may be taken as many times as needed at no additional cost. Once passed, results are automatically submitted to the FMCSA, clearing you to move forward with your School Bus skills training.
